Club History

Welcome to Brothers Pearse Athletic Club – Founded in 1956

Brothers Pearse Athletic Club was founded in Knocklyon in 1956. In over 60 years, we have trained thousands of juvenile and adult members in track and field, cross country, and road running. Many of our members have enjoyed success at local and national level, and some have represented Ireland in international competition. Today we have over four hundred members, from five year olds taking part in Little Athletics to masters athletes running parkruns, marathons, and other events. We are open to athletes of all standards, from those just starting out to experienced athletes looking for training groups to bring them on to the next level. For both juveniles and adult members, we want training to be a challenging but fun experience, where people make friends as well as getting fit.

Brothers Pearse Athletic Club is based in Cherryfield (Dodder Valley) Park, on the Firhouse Road. The club has approximately 400 members spanning all ages from juvenile to adults. Both the Adult and Juvenile sections are thriving and have produced many champions at County, Interprovincial and National Level. Many of our athletes compete at the highest level in a wide variety of competitions from 100m to marathon (and beyond!) and across all the field sports. The club enters teams in athletics competitions through the year – track and field in summer, cross country in winter. We encourage all athletes to take part in competition, whatever their ability. Our coaches have many Athletics Association of Ireland accreditations and have many years’ experience behind them. But this is just one aspect of the club. We have ran many Couch 2 5K courses for adult non-runners. This has been life changing for many of those who have taken part. We also have a strong inclusivity ethos in the club and will always try and cater for those who are not as strong as the rest of us. The philosophy of the club is embedded in the belief that ‘Running is to be enjoyed’. Whilst we train hard, we actively promote the ‘fun and craic’ at our sessions. We enjoy our social occasions and regularly travel outside Dublin and Ireland for competitions, all of which have been great fun. Membership is open to Adults and anyone who is interested is welcome to come along to try a few sessions without obligation. However membership is limited for some of our younger juvenile groups mainly due to a lack of facilities. We have a waiting list for these groups and priority will be given to those athletes who take part in competitions. Come and join us for a happier healthy you.
