RunZone April Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to our April Runzone Athlete of the Month, Sinead Tighe (on right, above). As well as a string of impressive individual performances, Sinead has lead two successful team performances – third placed Masters team in the Dublin Novice 5k, and (pictured above) second placed team in the Meet & Train summer league.

Later this month, we’ll be holding a table quiz for Sinead’s son, Daniel, to help renovate his home to meet his needs, hope to see you there!

RunZone March Athlete of the Month

The RunZone athlete of the month for March is Nadislane Kabongo!

Nadi won the National Indoor 60m title last month in a super-fast time of 8.17 seconds. This makes her the fastest girl indoors and out – she’s the reigning 80m champion, having won at nationals last July in an equally blistering 10.54.

She also won a silver medal in the regional schools shot putt!

Nadi is an excellent trainer, with huge potential for the future, and we’re all very excited to see how she develops.

February RunZone Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to Victor Ozhianvuna, the RunZone athlete of the month for February!

Victor has been flying with the Little Athletics group for a long time, and last month he finally got to make his competitive debut in the Dublin Indoor Championship. On Saturday he flew through the 60m sprint heats, sweeping all before him, and finished with a super time of 10.2 seconds in the final, taking the gold medal!

He was back for more on Sunday in the 500m, and again he was unstoppable, running a super 1:49.8 in the 500m to take a second gold medal!

I’m sure there’s a lot more to come from Victor, but he’s certainly made a super start!

Dublin Indoor Championships

Brothers Pearse had over a hundred juvenile athletes competing in the recent Dublin Indoor Championships. For many of these athletes it was their first competition – the under 9 group from Little Athletics were making their debuts – and for everyone it was the first time to compete in the new indoor arena in Abbottstown.

It was a packed weekend of competition. We started with relays on Friday evening. Races went on to after midnight, but ended in triumph for the u17 boys team of Pearse, Dylan, Alex, and Conor. The u13 team of Robert, Leon, Matthew, and Fionn took home the silver, while James, Eoghan, Cian, and Adam, the u12 boys took bronze.

Saturday saw a full day of action, including all of the 60m sprints (approximately half a million races :) ), walks, and some of the jumps and throws. The younger athletes had a great showing, including 60m medals at u9, u10, u11, u12, and u14.

Finally, Sunday held most of the distance races, thehurdles, and the rest of the field events. There was another strong showing from the club at all ages.

Weekly Newsletter – 19th February 2017

A quiet enough week this week.

Congratulations to Ieuan Hopkins with a superb 13th place finish in the schools XC Championships on 15th February, qualifying him for the All Irelands. Well done to Joe Haugh and Stephen Willoughby on the Enniscorthy 10K.

Thanks to everyone who have paid their subs for 2017. There are still a good number of people who have to pay so we would appreciate it if you could do so soon.

Lastly, if you or a group of you are planning a LSR at the weekend why not post on Facebook with meeting point, distance, pace etc. We all know how a LSR done in a group is much easier than one done on your own.

Parkrun Report

There were some great results in this weekend’s parkruns. In Tymon, Ingrid McGovern was 3rd Lady home and in Griffeen, Terry Monaghan and Garreth Bayle ran PB’s.
